Ein zweiter Blick auf Flüchtlingshelfer

ZULAYAT SULI KURBAN

Zulayat was born in 1988 in Urumqi in China. In 1999 she and her family fled to Germany because of persecution. In 2005 she was one of the main protagonists in Draußen blieben, a documentary film about excluded youth in Munich, which turned out to be a turning point in her life. From now on Zulayat devoted herself to film, theater & media. She got a part at the Munich Kammerspiele in the piece “Fluchten 1-4". Zulayat played so convincingly that the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation got aware of her and hired her as a reporter. The photo/film project "Crossing Munich" gave Zulayat the opportunity, for the first time, to implement her cinematic ideas under professional guidance. Her success continued: she was selected for the "Talentwerkstatt Grenzenlos" of the WDR, a project which provides journalistic and production knowledge for 3 weeks, followed by a 4 week apprenticeship at the radio station 1Live. Since 2010 Zulayat has now been the host of the Panafrika program of Radio Lora Munich. In addition, she has been participating in the art project „Übungsraum“ since 2008. She holds a scholarship of the Vodafone Foundation and since 2011 studies documentary film at the University of Television and Film Munich.
